June 2006 - Accommodation Update

BBI (DBCT) is pleased to announce that preferential accommodation for people working on the DBCT 7X Project will now be provided at:

These facilities are situated in close proximity to the project site.  A significant upgrade on all properties is currently under way, which will provide high quality accommodation and meals for project employees.  The number of units will increase from 70 currently available to 220 by the end of July 2006.  A wide range of accommodation styles and pricing is available to suit all tastes and requirements.  The contacts for these accommodation providers are as follows:

  • Angela Franklin (Park Manager) at Hay Point Beach Tourist Park - 4956 3413 or hpointpark@bigpond.com
  • Hay Point Hotel Motel - Haypoint.pub@bigpond.com
  • Tandara Hotel Motel in Broad Street, Sarina - 4956 3413

People working on the project needing to source accommodation locally, which can be quite difficult given the tight local real estate market, can contact the projec site on 4940 9440

May 2006 - Phase 1 Contracts 80% Committed

A significant milestone for the project was reached during May when 80% of the value of direct Phase 1 contracts were awarded .  This followed the award of the Inloading 3 System to McConnell Dowell and Bund 6 construction to BMD.

Phase 1 works takes the capacity of the terminal to 68Mtpa by the latter part of 2007.  After less than 12 months of intense engineering and procurement effort in Brisbane with the majority of contracts awarded, this phase is well and truly underway, and heading towards providing the first capacity increment by close to the original target date.

April 2006 - Site Activities Gain Momentum

The site now has over 150 construction personnel, working across a wide area of activities.  With several major contractors established over the past months, work is clearly gaining momentum, and the scale of the expansion is becoming evident.  Golding have recently successfully completed the excavation and processing of rock out of the Row 8 area, and are also engaged in excavation for the rail receival pit and tunnel.

BMD's work on Bund 5A is progressing well, and over 200 pre-cast wall panels have now been installed.  They are also engaged in construction of the car park adjacent to Hay Point Road, the new access road to the site, and the Hay Point road tunnel crossing.

The EPCM office complex is complete, with Connell Hatch and BBI (DBCT) staff having taken up occupancy.

Off-site, accommodation sponsored by BBI (DBCT) at the Hay Point Hotel/Motel and Caravan Park is being increased to be available for the wave of construction personnel expected in the coming months.

March 2006 - McConnell Dowell Awarded Major Package for 3rd Inloading System (IL3)

The major contract for the 3rd Inloading System has been awarded to McConnell Dowell.  The scope of this contract includes the structural, mechanical and electrical works for the new rail receival pit, and conveyor system from the pit to the existing stockyard.  It interfaces closely with the civil works being undertaken by Golding for the pit and tunnel, and the crossing under the Hay Point Road being constructed by BMD.

McConnell Dowell is currently assembling its team, and work will physically commence on site at the end of May.  The Contract is due for completion early in 2007.
