Project Management

Overview

The project is being executed by an approach referred to as EPCM (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management). Under this arrangement, BBI (DBCT) Management Pty Ltd, as the Owner appoints a "managing engineer" to design the facilities, and award contracts for the supply and construction. This Company then co-ordinate all the various suppliers and contractors to achieve the required completion dates, and manage the entire delivery process.

Construction contractors are selected to suit the size and complexity of the installation works, and they in turn engage sub-contractors for the various specialist trades, or directly hire the construction workforce.

This arrangement is common for major projects, and in particularly so for an expansion within an operating facility where there must be close co-ordination and co-operation with the Operator.

Project 7X

For the 7X project, BBI (DBCT) Management Pty Ltd has appointed Connell Hatch as the EPCM contractor. Connell Hatch is a joint venture between Connell Wagner and Hatch Associates. Connell Wagner is one of Australia's foremost consulting Engineers, and has been involved with DBCT since the original terminal construction, and every expansion since then. Hatch is a global project management specialist, who bring a vast experience of major project development and specialist resources.

Please see the following diagram which shows how this arrangement works, and more detail of the organisations at each level can be examined if desired.
